The Publicity Handbook: The Inside Scoop from More Than 100 Journalists
and PR Pros on How to Get Great Publicity Coverage : In Print, Online,
and on The Air
Yale, David R., with Andrew J. Carothers, NTC Business
Books, ISBN: 0844232424
The
Publicity Handbook is designed for people who have to do their own
publicity, and need a down-to-earth blueprint for the publicity
process.
It's
jammed with quotations from journalists, who tell you in their own
words exactly what they want from publicists. And, from the other
side of the desk, it's filled with advice from master publicists,
who share their tips and strategies with you.
In
addition, the book has anecdotes, and examples that come from a
whole range of organizations, from corporate to small business,
and government agencies to nonprofits. It's interesting, has a sense
of humor, and reflects the diversity of our world. The book also
assumes that organizations may be controversial, people may be members
of ethnic minorities, and not everybody thinks alike.
Finally,
the checklists at the end of most of the chapters in The Publicity
Handbook are designed to help publicists keep track of and apply
what they've learned. In a world where good mentors are few and
far between, the checklists are almost like having a wise, seasoned,
and patient guru watching over your shoulder every time you work
on another publicity project.
